Sky
Sky is a 31-pound cattle-dog mix with unrelenting drive and focus as she seeks her favorite toy—the lacrosse ball. When Sky is engaged in fetch, she ignores people, furry animals and all other distractions. She lives in a home now, but her humans believe she would thrive channeling her energy into conservation work. Sky is very in-tune with humans, reading body language and voice tone as she seeks to understand what you’re asking of her. She is able to closely follow a human, walking unleashed through a neighborhood full of distractions. She plays “hide and seek,” waiting patiently while treats are hidden around the house, and then when given the “go” command, won’t give up until she finds each treat. She knows basic commands, like sit, stay, wait, shake, down, walk, ride, etc. Sky lives with children and chickens, but does not herd or nip. Sky definitely engages in communicative barking when she wants to play ball or when she sees people she likes. When around other dogs or humans she is unfamiliar with, she does best off-leash so she can make space for herself while she gets comfortable. When not working, Sky sleeps on the couch or in her round, fuzzy bed, and at night, in a soft crate. The reason the family is looking to get Sky into this type of work is they feel like she could be doing more, and even though she fits in well with them, she has more drive to do working in some capacity.
